I swam my first open water swim tonight. It wasn’t fast and it wasn’t pretty, but I swam 500m. The main thing that surprised me, was the darkness when I put my face in the water. I don’t know why, but I was shocked and a little afraid which made my breathing irregular. I decided to swim without my face in the water and my breathing settled down. I then lost sighting of the final bouy so I was swimming slightly in the wrong direction. Luckily I caught sight of the cars parked by the shore, and got myself back on track. I have a lesson booked for Sunday afternoon so I’m hoping that they’ll listen to what happened and offer me some advice.
